Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effect of posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in posterior capsular rupture during Cataract Phacoemulsification. Method: Posterior chamber IOL implantation was performed in 39 cases (40 eyes) of posterior capsular rupture during cataract phacoemulsification. Results: In-the-bag implantation was performed in 12 eyes, optic-IOL was fixed on anterior capsular in 13 eyes, sulcus-fixed lens implantation in 13 eyes, two of them requiring suture fixation. One to 37 months' follow-up after the operation revealed that the postoperative uncorrected visual acuity was 0. 5 or better in 33 eyes (82.5% ) and 1.0 or better in 19 eyes (47. 5% ). The corrected visual acuity was 0. 5 or better in 38 eyes (95% ) and 1.0 or better in 25 eyes (62. 5% ) . The major complications were IOL deviation ( 3 eyes) and pupil transformation ( 2 eyes). Conclusion: Posterior chamber IOL implantation can be performed with satisfactory result in case of posterior capsular rupture during cataract phacoemulsification.
