Abstract

To establish a method for the quantitative determination of total saponins in Lilium brownii F E Brown var viridulum Baker by UV spectrophotometry the determination was carried out with chemical reaction, and the total saponins in ten different samples were determined by UV at wavelengths 535 nm.The results showed that the content of the total saponins in ten different samples were 8.39%,8.11%,8.24%,7.62%,7.38%,9.02%,8.83%,8.87%,9.21%,9.17% respectively, and RSDS of the above ten samples were 1.22%,0.87%,0.93%,1.32%,0.86%,1.37%,0.94%,1.39%,1.55%,1.61%.It concluded the method was simple, accurate and could be used in the quantitative determination of total saponins in Lilium brownii F E Brown var viridulum Baker.
