Effect of Bushen Jianpi Recipe on Immune Function and Quality of Life in HBeAg-positive Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Cirrhosis Patients

Objective:To observe the effect of Bushen Jianpi Recipe on the immune function and quality of life in HBeAg-positive hepatocellular carcinoma with cirrhosis patients.Methods:A prospective cohort study was conducted and seventy-two patients were equally divided into control group and Chinese medicine group.The control group applied antiviral therapy(nucleoside) and symptomatic treatment.The Chinese medicine group was treated with Bushen Jianpi Recipe along with antiviral therapy(nucleoside) and symptomatic treatment.The immunologic function,term effect of solid tumor and quality of life were compared between the two groups after twelve-week treatment.Results:During the period of study,two cases were off in Chinese medicine group and four in control group.Compared with the control group,the expressions of CD+3,CD+4,NK cells and IFN-γ were significantly increased while the amount of CD+4CD+25cells were obviously decreased in Chinese medicine group.The KPS score,total health score,stable rate of solid tumors,physical function,role function,emotional function and the symptoms including fatigue,insomnia,constipation and diarrhea were also significantly improved in Chinese medicine group in comparison to those of the control group.Conclusion:Bushen Jianpi Recipe can effectively improve the quality of life of hepatocellular carcinoma patients at the end-stage and stabilize the tumor volume.Resuming immune balance may be one of the mechanisms of Bushen Jianpi Recipe on cancer treatment.
