Abstract
The harmonious society and social capital are the ultimate concerns of the domestic academia. This paper first introducesthe basic definition and implication of social capital, and points out that trust, norms, and the network of social participation are thesoul of social capital. Then it analyzes the significance of social capital for building the harmonious society, that is, social capital is conducive to promoting social efficiency, ensuring social stability and fostering social fairness. Finally it puts forward that governmentguidance is a prerequisite and civil society organization is the key to fostering Chinese contemporary social capital.
