Study of quetiapine combined with haloperidol in the treatment of schizophrenia

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and adverse effects in patients with schizophrenia treated with quetiapine combined with haloperidol. Method:110 patients with schizophrenia,who had poorer efficacy treated with oral quetiapine,were treated with quetiapine plus haloperidol for 12 weeks.Efficacy and adverse effects were evaluated by Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS)and Udvalg for Kliniske Undersogelser Side Effect Rating Scale(UKU),respectively. Results:The PANSS total scores and subscale scores decreased significantly after 12 treatment weeks(P0.05 and P0.01),with response rate 71.82% and no significant increase in adverse effects(P0.05). Conclusion:Quetiapine combined with haloperidol had a better efficacy and mild adverse effects in the treatment of schizophrenia.
