The clinical application of ultrasound guided Mammotome on benign breast lesions

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the clinical application of ultrasound guided Mammotome on benign breast lesions.Methods:The operations and biopsy for 136 breast lesions in 92 patients were performed by ultrasound guided Mammotome system.Results:All of breast lesions were resected safely and completely.The average incisions were 15 times and the mean operative time was 18 min.Histological examination diagnosed fibroadenoma in 68 cases,cystic hyperplasia in 12 cases,papilloma in 6 cases and adenosis in 6 cases.Lesions closer to the nipple and cases in which multiple lesions were removed at a time were developed more complications which include subcutaneous congestion and haematoma.With post-operative follow up from 3~6 months,no operative residual breast lesions were found by the ultrasound examination.Conclusion:It is accurate,safe and minimal invasive procedure to excise benign breast lesions by ultrasound guided Mammotome system and the cosmetric effect is satisfactory.However,more attention should be given to certain lesions.
