Abstract
Objective To observe the nursing effect of polyvidone iodine on prevention of urinary tract infection in patients with indwelling catheter. Methods Eighty cases of patients with long-time indwelling catheter in our hospital were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. In the control group, the aseptic paraffin oil was used to lubricate the catheter and air-sac was put for catheterization, the whole process was in a closed drainage. In the experimental group, instead of the aseptic paraffin oil, the 0.5% polyvidone iodine was applied to lubricate the catheter, the rest were the same as the control group. The positive rate of bacteriuria after catheterization in both groups was compared. Results The positive rate of bacteriuria in the experimental group was greatly lower than that of the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P 0.05). Conclusion The application of 0.5% polyvidone iodine to lubricate the catheter can decrease the infection rate of urinary bladder, and reduce the occurrence of urinary tract infection.
