Abstract

AIM:To study the chemical constituents of the vines of Pueraria lobata.METHODS:The compounds were separated by column chromatography over silica gel,and purified by Sephadex LH-20 CC and preparative TLC.Their structures were elucidated on the basis of physicochemical properties and spectral data.RESULTS:Eleven compounds were isolated and identified as:salicylic acid(1),protocatechuic aldehyde(2),protocatechuic acid ethyl ester(3),p-hydroxybenzaldehyde(4),p-hydroxybenzoic acid(5),p-hydroxybenzoic acid ethyl ester(6),syringaldehyde(7),8-methylretusin(8),4',7-dimethoxyisoflavone(9),isoformononetin(10) and biochanin A(11).CONCLUSION:For the first time, compounds 1,3,4 and 6-10 were isolated from Pueraria plant, and compounds 1-10 were obtained from this plant.
