Comparison of dezocine and morphine on pain in advanced cancer

AIM To compare the effects and adverse reactions of dezocine and morphine on pain in advanced cancer.METHODS Sixty patients with moderate to severe pain as a result of advanced cancer were randomized into dezocine group(n = 30) and morphine group(n = 30),and were respectively administered with dezocine 10 mg and morphine 10 mg every 6 hours.During 7-day treatment periods,analgesic effects,life qualities and adverse reactions were observed.RESULTS There were significant differences in analgesic effects and life quality between before and after the treatment in both groups(P0.01).There were no significant differences in analgesic effects and life quality between the two groups after the treatment(P0.05).The incidence of adverse reaction in the dezocine group was lower than that in the morphine group(P0.01). CONCLUSION Dezocine is effective as morphine in clinical practice with less adverse reaction,and is convenient for outpatient treatment.
