Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between cerebral infarction and plasma level of homocysteine(Hcy). Methods The serum level Hcy,folate(FA)and vitaminB_(12)(VitB_(12))of 400 patients with cerebral infarction and 200 patients without history of clinical cardiovascular diseases and cerebrovascular diseases were measured. Results The serum level of Hcy,in the cerebral infarction group(17.25±7.11μmol/L) was higher than that of control grouop(10.48±3.01μmol/L).The difference of serum level was significant between cerebral infarction group and control group(P(0.01)).The risk factor in patients of less than 40 years old was especially higher than control guoup. The level of serum Hcy was negative correlction with that of FA and VitB_(12).Conclusion The high level of serum Hcy is correlated with risk factor for cerebral infarction.
