Abstract
Objective To study the relations between plasma homocysteine (Hcy) and cerebral infarction. Methods 73 cerebral infarction patients were divided into two subgroups:large infarction (27),small infarction (46).The relations between Hcy and hypertension, diabetes, blood lipid, sex, age, the size of cerebral infarction, vitaminB 12, serum folic acid were analyzed. Results Relations between Hcy and hypertension, diabetes, blood lipid, sex, age were not significant. There were correlations between Hcy and the size of cerebral infarction.Negative correlation was found between Hcy and the level of vitaminB 12 and serum folic acid. Conclusion Plasma Hcy level had a close correspondence with the size of cerebral infarction. It suggested that high level of Hcy may be the risk factor of carotid atherescleretic cerebral infarction.
