Abstract

Objective: To detect the Effect of electroforming technology on gingival health of the teeth restored with porcelain-fused-metal (PFM) crowns. Methods: Twenty-four maxillary incisors possessed electroformed-gold based PFM crowns with subgingival margins, of twenty patients, were involved in the study. The contralateral homonymy nature teeth were healthy and served as control teeth. The patients were recalled 6 to 8 months after the placement of the crowns. The gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples were collected by filter paper strips. The weight of GCF and the concentration of GCF TNF-α and GCF-EA were detected. Then the following clinical parameters were recorded for the test teeth and matched ones: plaque index, probing depth, sulcus bleeding index. Results: All the restorations were clinically accepted, either in marginal depth or in marginal discrepancies. There were no significant differences in clinical parameters (except for probing depth and bleeding index) and GCF parameters between the test and control teeth. Conclusion: Been clinically accepted, electroformed-gold based PFM crown has no apparently negative influences on gingival health of the restored teeth.
