Abstract

The catalytic esterification of benzoic acid with isoamyl alcohol in the presence of ferric chloride was studyied. When the molar ratio of benzoic acid to isoamyl alcohol was 1∶3, with ferric chloride of 1.0 g/0.1 mol benzoic acid and the reaction time of 2.5 h, the esterification rate was 90.3%.
