Abstract

It has been found that ferric chloride is superior to H 2SO 4 when used as catalyst for esterification of isoamyl alcohol with hexanoic acid. The optimum reaction conditions in synthesis of isoamyl hexanoate catalyzed with ferric chloride are determined, with the yield at 87.65%.
