Abstract
Esterification of acetic acid with isoamyl alcohol catalyzed by ferric chloride was studied, and effect of different factors such as reaction time, dosage of catalyst and ratio of acetic acid to isoamyl alcohol on the yield of isoamyl acetate was carefully examined.Result showed that the preferable reaction condition was as follows: amount of acetic acid 0.1mol,molar ratio of isoamyl alcohol to acetic acid 1.2,amount of catalyst 10 ml,amount of cyclohexane used as water-carrying agent 8 ml and reaction time 30min.The yield of isoamyl acetate was 93.5% and the product was characterized by refractive index and IR analysis.
