Determination of Icariin in Epimedium Total Flavone Capsule by RP-HPLC

Abstract

Objective:To develop a method for the determination of the contents of icariin in Epimedium Total Flavone Capsule,a Chinese herbal preparation for the treatment of osteoporosis,by RP-HPLC.Methods:The sample was shaken in an ultrasonic bath for 30min.The contents were determined by HPLC,with Zorbax Eclipse XDB-C 18 column,acetonitrile-water-acetic acid(27∶73∶0.5)as mobile phase and UV detector at 270 nm.Results:The content of icariin had a good linearity in the range of 0.184～1.84 μg(r=0.999 9).The average recovery was 99.4% and RSD was 1.86%(n=6).Conclusion:The method is rapid,reliable and simple,and can be used for the quality control of Epimedium Total Flavone Capsule.
