Exploring New Horizon of Calligraphy and Entering New State of Art—On the Innovation of Contemporary Calligraphy

Innovation is the important guaranteefor any artistic categoryto keep its vitality and the original force to stimulate its continuousdevelopment. As other arts, in the contemporarytime of knowledge, information, visual-audio and media, the art of calligraphy is confronted with higher requirement, more task and greater difficulty of innovation. Based on the fundamental change in the existing environment of contemporary calligraphy, the present article develops its argument in four aspects-innovation of calligraphic ideas, innovation of calligraphic methods, innovation of calligraphic contents, and innovation of calligraphic forms. Integrating his own calligraphic practice, the author presents deep thought and unique understanding on the innovation of future calligraphy.
