Abstract

Objective In order to explore the inter relationship of p16 and Rb protein to each other as well as to clinicopathological parameters in gastric carcinomas. Methods The expression of p16 and Rb protein in 40 cases of gastric carcinoma was detected with immunohistochemical method. Results The total positive rate of p16 and Rb protein was 35.0%(14/40) and 72.5%(29/40),respectively in gastric carcinomas. The positive rate of Rb protein was significantly lower in p16 protein positive tumors than in p16 protein negative ones( P 0.01).The expression of p16 protein in gastric carcinoma was significantly correlated with histological type, invasion depth, lymph node metastasis, and TNM stage, while the expression of Rb protein was correlated with histological type and lymph node metastasis. Conclusion The reduced expression of p16 and Rb protein in gastric carcinomas relates to the progression of tumors, and that there are a significantly inverse relation between the expressions of p16 and Rb protein.
