[Serum lipids of rural residents in Ningxia Province].

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the levels of serum lipids and the prevalence of abnormal serum lipids among native rural residents in Ningxia Province. METHODS: Serum lipid data of 1434 native rural residents aged 20 to 74 and lived in Guyuan City and Wuzhong City were collect by random cluster sampling method. The participants were assigned by age into three groups: below 30, 30 - 50 and over 50 years old. The prevalence of abnormal serum lipids were calculated according to the diagnostic criteria for abnormal serum lipids in 2003 ATP III. RESULTS: The average levels of TC was (3.82 +/- 0.84) mmol/L, TG was (1.17 +/- 0.74) mmol/L, HDL-C was (1.21 +/- 0.31) mmol/L and LDL-C was (2.08 +/- 0.68) mmol/L. The prevalence of abnormal serum lipids of the investigated subjects was 28.9%. Serum lipids level and the prevalence of abnormal serum lipids was increased with age in females, serum lipids in the female was higher than the male after 50 years of age, and the serum lipids of the male was dropped somewhat after 50 years of age, but there was a tendency of rejuvenation of high blood lipids syndrome among young males. Serum lipids of the male before 50 years of age were higher than those of the female. The prevalence of abnormal serum lipids in Hui Nationality is higher than that of Han Nationality. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of abnormal serum lipids were relatively high in rural adults in Ningxia, but there was a relatively greater variation in different nationalities and different genders.
