A Cognitive Study of Conceptual Metaphor Theory and Its Application English Vocabulary Teaching

Abstract

The meaning of a lot of words is evolved by means of metaphor because metaphor is not only a kind of rhetorical device but also a universal way of thinking.Metaphor plays an important role in the acquisition of vocabulary.And it's considered to be the mapping from the source domain to the target domain.The paper introduces the conceptual metaphor theory,analyzes the feasibility and effectiveness of its application in English vocabulary teaching and supposes some methods for English vocabulary teaching.
