Conceptual Metaphor Theory and English Vocabulary Acquisition

As a means of human thinking and cognition, metaphor is closely connected with vocabulary. This article introduces the definition of conceptual metaphor, the connection between conceptual metaphor and vocabulary acquisition. It argues that due attention should be given to the knowledge of conceptual metaphor in English vocabulary acquisition and teaching, with emphasis paid on their metaphorical meaning and their culture background. Only in this way can students see quick improvement in their vocabulary acquisition.
