Application of bispectral index in sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia during adult heart surgery

Abstract

Objective To observe the feasibility of bispectral index (BIS) in sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia during adult heart surgery. Methods Eighty adults undergoing heart valve surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass were randomly divided into treatment and control groups. All patients accepted the sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia, but the sevoflurane concentration was adjusted according to bispectral index in treatment group or clinical experience in control group. Results The mean arterial pressure and heart rate during the intubation, skin incision and end of surgery were lower in treatment group than those in control group (P0.01). The extubation and staying time in ICU was less in treatment group than that in control group (P0.01). Conclusion During adult heart surgery, bispectral index-guided sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia can achieve more stable hemodynamics and shorten the extubation and staying time in ICU.
