Clinical observation of sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia guided by BIS monitoring in children

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical value of bispectral index(BIS) in guiding sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia guided by BIS monitoring in children.Methods Forty-eight patients aged 1 to 12 years old undergoing selective urological surgery were randomized into two groups with 24 cases each.Sevoflurane delivery in group C was adjusted by clinical signs and hemodynamic changes,which in group BIS was adjusted by BIS monitoring with a target BIS of 40-60 during operation and 60-75 during the last 15 min of the surgery.Mean end-tidal sevoflurane concentration,BIS value,hemodynamic data,analepsia time,extubation time and PACU stay were compared between two groups.Results Mean end-tidal sevoflurane concentration during surgery was significantly lower in group BIS than that in group C(P0.01).So did the mean BIS value.The times of awakening,extubation and PACU stay were significantly shorter in group BIS than those in group C(P0.01).Conclusion With BIS monitoring the depth of anesthesia in children can save sevoflurane and shorten the time of recovery.
