Abstract
By using lanthanum chloride as the catalyst, lactic acid and n-butanol reacted to form butyl lactate. Some effects were investigated such as amount of catalyst, reaction time, molar ratio of alcohol to acid, different water carrying agents and repeated uses of catalyst.Experimental results showed that lanthanum chloride was the efficient, economic and environmental friendly catalyst.Under the best conditions the yield of butyl lactate could reach 91.2%.
