Abstract

Objective: To investigate the dynamic changes of platelet parameters in children with severe pneumonia. Methods: Dynamic changes of platelet count(PLT),platelet distribution width(PDW),mean platelet volume(MPV)and platelet-large cell ratio(P-LCR) were detected in 38 children with severe pneumonia(group A), 80 with general pneumonia(group B) and 100 healthy controls(group C). Results: PLT in group A was significantly higher than group B and group C,P 0.01, while PDW?MPV?P-LCR were significantly lower than group C in 24 hours,P 0.05. PLT in group B was significantly higher than group C,P 0.05, but PDW?MPV?P-LCR were no differences between group B and C,P 0.05. After 72 hours, the parameters of platelet in group B were recovered. PLT in group A was significantly decreased but PDW?MPV?P-LCR were significantly increased on day 3 and all the parameters of platelet in group A become normalized on day 7. Conclusions: Simultaneous detection of platelet parameters is helpful in evaluating the severity of pneumonia.
