Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between blood glucose levels and severity of coronary stenosis in hypertensive patients. Methods Blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, 2 h plasma glucose, clinical features and coronary angiographic findings were analyzed retrospectively in 540 patients with essential hypertension. Acoording 2 h plasma glucose, patients were stratified into three group: group 1: 2h plasma glucose 7.8 mmol/L; group 2: 2 h plasma glucose 7.8-11.0 mmol/L;group 3: 2 h plasma glucose ≥11.1 mmol/L. The relation of coronary stenosis and blood glucose level was analyzed. Results The severity of the coronary stenosis was positively related to 2 h plasma glucose levels (P0.01). Mortality rate in 24 months was significantly higher in the group 3 (11.1%) than that in the group 1 (2.9%, P0.05). LVEF in the group 3 and group 2 were decreased(group 3: 53.8±9.9 and group 2: 54.1±10.2 vs group 1: 58.1±9.6,P0.05). Conclusion The severity of coronary artery stenosis and mortality rate were increased in hypertensive patients with the elevated glucose level.
