Study on the antioxidant effect of grape seed powder in natural aging rats

Abstract

Objective:To study the antioxidant effect of grape seed powder in natural aging rats.Methods:48 male aging SD rats were randomly divided into 3 dosage group and 1 negative group according to the malonaldehyde(MDA) content in serum.Each group consisted of 12 rats.The test doses were 200 mg/kg BW,100 mg/kg BW,50 mg/kg BW,while the negative group was given deionized water.The rats were orally given test sample respectively for 90 days,once a day.At the end of test,the content of MDA and lipofuscin(Lip),the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) were determined.Results:Grape seed powder can significantly enhance the activity of SOD and GSH-Px and reduce the content of MDA in rats.The Lip content was not affected significantly.Conclusion:Grape seed powder has antioxidant function.
