Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum homocysteine(Hcy) and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Methods: The serum Hcy levels were detected in 152 patients with coronary heart disease(CHD),82 patients with stroke and 105 healthy controls. Results: The average level of Hcy in the patients with CHD,stroke and healthy controls was(21. 35 ±9. 78) μmol /L、(24.12±11.21) μmol/L and(10.23±6.83) μmol/L,respectively,Hcy level in patients with CHD,stroke was significantly higher than that of the normal control group(P0. 01). Conclusion: Serum Hcy is closely associated with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, high level Hcy is an independent risk factor of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, lowering homocysteine level can prevent and reduce the occurrence of atherosclerosis.
