Abstract
Objective To explore the relations between cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and the level of serum homocysteine(Hcy).Methods All the subjects were 60 years old and obove and were divided into 3 groups: the coronary heart disease group(38),cerebrovascular disease group(35) and the healthy control group(33).History inquiry and physical examination were carried out.The fast blood of all the subjects was taken to determine the levels of Hcy,folic acid and vitamin B 12 .Results The levels of Hcy were higher in the elderly with chronic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (17.66±5.88 and 16.89±9.21 μmol/L respectively) than in the control group(14.36±5.87 μmol/L)(P0.01) and the elevated levels of Hcy were related to the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases(P0.05).Conclusion The levels of Hcy were higher in the elderly with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases than in the normal elderly.
