Abstract

WU Cheng-shi,a former disciple of ZHANG Tai-yan and scholar of the Confucian classics during the Republic of China(1912—1949),was once dean of the Chinese Department at Beijing Normal University and dean of the Department of Studies of Ancient Chinese Civilization.His research in the history of the Confucian classics has peculiar characteristics and unique values,which are embodied in three chief aspects:exhaustive data collection,comprehensiveness out of various former views,and rectifications of types of inappropriate understandings.
