Breeding process and characters of a new and important combination of indica type late hybrid rice Bo You 253 in south China

A new hybrid rice combination Bo You 253 had been bred by the Development Center for Surporting Agriculture of Guangxi University in 1996 It was from crossing the male sterile line Bo A with the restorer line Ce 253 which was bred by our centre and with strong hybrid vigor The test results of planting in different site and large scale through several years indicated that it had high yield potencial, excellent grain and cooking quality, multiple resistances ability, 120 days growth duration and suitable to the region of second crop indica varieties in south China It's unit yield was 7 500 kg/hm2 generally,the highest yield was 9 750 kg/hm2.Most of it's grain quality indexes reached 1~2 grade of national standard It had been passed through Guangxi Autonomous Region and south China network of rice varietal tests in 1998~1999 and 2000~2001,respectively.It had been examined and approved by Guangxi Committee of Approving Crop Varieties in 2000
