Application of the topiocal anesthesia in the trabeculectomy

Objective To evaluate the reliability and efficacy and safety of topical anesthesia intrabeculectomy for glaucoma.Methods 138 eye of 86 cases glaucoma were performed trabecullectomy undertopical anesthesia with 0.5% alcaine eyedrop. The efficacy of topical anesthesia and change in vitalsigns and intraoperative or postoperative complications were observed. Results 133 eyes(96.4%)cooperated well with the surgeons during surgery.only 5 eyes (3.6%) was no-cooperaated, required supp-lementary anesthesia (Sub-Tenon's).None of the patients had significant changed rhythm of the heart orblood pressure during the whole surgical procedure. there was no serious intraoperative or postopperativecomplication. Conclusion Topical anesthesia can be used safely and effectively and fewer complica-tions and more indications for trabeculectomy. However, preoperative selected patients and training arenecessary to the safe use of topical anesthesia.
