Abstract

Objective To study the effects of Beijing propolis on antioxidant function in aged mice. Methods In accordance with the method for the assessment of antioxidative function in Technical Standards for Testing Assessment of Health Food (2003 version), the aged mice was orally administered Beijing propolis at doses of 0.183g, 0.367g, and 1.101g /kg·bw for successive 30 days. The content of blood MDA, activity of serum SOD and GSH-Px were determined with related reagent kit. Results As compared with the control mice, all the 3 dose groups increased the activity of serum GSH-Px, the 1.101g /kg·bw dose decreased the content of blood MDA, but all the dose groups showed no significant effect on the activity of serum SOD. Conclusion In the present test condition, Beijing propolis could enhance the antioxidant function in aged mice.
