Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of mucosolvan(ambroxol) in the treatment of secretory otitis media. Methods 76 patients (81 ears) with secretory otitis media were divided into two groups at random. 40 cases (45 ears) were treated with mucosolvan both by intra-tympanum injection and by oral intake. 36 cases (36 ears) were treated by intra-tympanum with dexamethasone and α-chymotrypsin as the contral. Results After 2 ~3 weeks of treatment, the variation of symptoms and hearing thresholds were compared with before treatment. The effective rate was 88.9% in the treatment group. Conclusion It is concluded that mucoslovan is a safe and effective medicine in the treatment of secretory otitis media.
