Abstract
Objective To explore whether aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid,ASA) inhibits the growth of Caski cells,a cervical cancer cell line,in vitro Methods Caski cells were cultured in the presence of ASA (1~5 mM) for 48 h Cell proliferation was determined by trypan blue exclusion and exceeded 95% Cell cycle distribution was analyzed by flow cytometry Results ASA induced a dose-dependent inhibition of Caski cells in vitro The growth inhibition was 20%~86% at dosages of 1-5 mM ASA induced a shift from S phase to the resting phase (G0/G1) of the cell cycle Conclusions ASA inhibits Caski cell growth in vitro in a dose-dependent manner Apoptosis may be one of the mechanisms involved in the response
