Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between average 24 hour ambulatory pulse pressure (PP) and left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH).Methods Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) was done in 58 hypertensive patients,which were divided into two groups-one group with LVH and the other without LVH.Results (1)The average 24-hour ambulatory PP ( P 0.01) and the clinic PP ( P 0.05) were significantly increased in the group with LVH than that in the group without LVH.(2)A positive correlation was found between the left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVPWth) and relative ventricular wall thickness (RWT) and the average 24-hour ambulatory PP ( P 0.01),as well as between LVPWth and RWT and the clinic PP ( P 0.05).Conclusion The elevated PP is a risk factor related to the LVH in essential hypertension,but the significance of the average 24-hour PP is higher than clinic PP in predicting LVH.
