Abstract

AIM To observe the effects of combined treatment of atorvastatin and losartan on pulse pressure(PP) in senile patients with isolated systolic hypertension(ISH).METHODS Sixty-two normocholesterolemic senile patients were divided into the 2 groups.Losartan of 50 mg·d~(-1) dosage was taken by thirty subjects in control group.Thirty-two in treatment group were administered with losartan of 50 mg·d~(-1) dose and 20 mg·d~(-1) atorvastatin orally.Blood pressure was followed-up and recorded every two weeks for 12 wk.RESULTS The PP of senile patients with ISH in control group decreased from pretreatment(74.67±7.77)mm Hg to(67.37±5.53)mm Hg in wk 12 of therapy. The treatment group was resulted in a significant PP improvement from pretreatment(75.06±6.96)mm Hg to(59.75±5.92) mm Hg.The difference of PP between 2 groups had obvious statistical significance after treatment(P0.01).CON- CLUSION A combined treatment with atorvastatin and losartan is helpful to the PP improvement of senile patients with ISH.
