Abstract

Objective:To observe the effects of atorvastatin combined with irbesartan on pulse pressure (PP) in old patients with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH).Methods:Sixty four old patients with normal level of cholesterol were divided into the two groups.Irbesartan of 150 mg/d dosage was taken by 32 subjects in control group.Thirty two cases in treatment group were administered orally with irbesartan of 150 mg/d dose and 10 mg/d atorvastatin.Blood pressure was followed-up and recorded every two weeks for 12 weeks. Results:After treatment the PP decreased from pretreatment (74.67±7.77) mmHg to (67.37±5.53) mmHg in control group.Atorvastatin combined with irbesartan resulted in a significant improvement of PP from pretreatment(75.06±6.96) mmHg to(59.75±5.92) mmHg.There was a significant difference between two groups for PP after treatment(P0.01).Conclusion:A combination treatment with atorvastatin and irbesartan is helpful to the PP improvementin in old patients with ISH.
