Abstract
Objective To explore and analyze the effect and safety of ultrasonic phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation in patients over 80 years old. Methods Ultrasonic phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation were done in 120 eyes of 103 patients over 80 years old.Necessary oxygen inhalation and electrocardiographic monitoring were done during the operation.Postoperative acuity of vision and complications were observed. Results One hundred and ten eyes had obtained postoperative acuity of vision≥0.05,95 eyes had obtained postoperative acuity of vision≥0.3;sight restored in 91.66%,and rehabilitation rate was 79.17%.The complications of operation such as capsular breaking had been seen in 7 eyes(5.83%),corneal edema opacity in 10 eyes(8.33%),uveitis in 9 eyes(7.5%) and transient intraocular hypertension in 11 eyes(9.17%).Conclusion Ultrasonic phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation in elder patients with cataract were safe and effective.Visual acuity of patients can considerably be recovered when pre-operation examination and intraoperative monitoring had better been done.
