Abstract

Objetive To observe effects of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens(IOL)implantation in elderly patients with cataract. Methods 655 cases(655 eyes)with senile cataract were performed with cataract phacoemulsification and intraocular lens(IOL)implantation,Postoperative visual acuity and complication were observed and recorded. Results One day after the surgery, the vision acuity was 0.5 or better in 256 eyes(39.08%);3 days after surgery, the vision acuity was 0.5 or better in 419 eyes(63.57%).655 patients visual acuity were improved in different degrees. The main postoperative complication was corneal edema,No other serious complications occurred. Conclusion Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens(IOL)implantation is the effective surgical method in the treatment of senile cataract, standardized operation technique can reduce postoperative complications.
