Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect and technique of primary posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation for cases with posterior capsular rupture during extracapsular cataract extraction. Methods Primary posterior chamber IOL implantation was performed on 11 eyes with posterior capsular rupture occurring in 143 eyes during extracapsular cataract extractions. Results In the bag lens implantations were performed on 7 eyes, and sulcus fixed implatation on 4 eyes. Most patients had remarkable improvements in postoperative visual acuity. Conclusion The posterior chamber IOL implantation can be performed primarily in cases with posterior chamber rupture by using remained anterior or posterior capsules as supports after the anterior segment of vitreous body was cleaned.
