Relationship between insulin resistance and pancreatic β-cell in pregnant with diabetes

Abstract

Objective To investigate the insulin resistance and pancreatic β-cell function of the pregnant with gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM).Methods In 68 cases of GDM pregnant group and 70 cases of normal control group,the levels of blood glucose and insulin were measured,the insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) and β-cell function index(HOMA-IS) were calculated with HOMA model.Results HOMA-IR in the GDM group(1.4±0.6)was higher than that in the normal control group(0.5±0.2)(P0.01).HOMA-IS in the GDM group(3.9±0.9) was lower than that in the normal control group(4.4±0.8)(P0.05).Conclusion Increasement of insulin resistance and decline of pancreatic β-cell function may result in gestational diabetes mellitus.
