Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect and safety of Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide on mild-to-moderate essential hypertension. Methods Sixty patients with hypertension were randomized into two groups:Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide group(group A,n=30) received oral Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets(150~300/12.5~25mg/d) and control group(group B,n=30) received irbesartan tablets(150~300mg/d) for 8 weeks. Results Blood pressure was significantly reduced in both groups(P0.01,respectively vs before) .BP was reduced from(149.57±8.40/94.93±4.51) mmHg to(127.43±7.96/79.73±4.63) mmHg in group A;from(149.43±9.28/93.41±6.22) mmHg to(132.21±9.46/81.78±5.06) mmHg in group B.Total effect of group A after treatment was 93.3%,group B was only 73.3%.There was significant difference between the two groups(P0.05) .There were no significant changes in blood and urine routine examination, liver and renal functions, serum K+、Na、CI+ and lipids and electrocardiogram records. Conclusion Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide is effective and safe in the treatment of esential hypertension.
