COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN SERTRALINE AND AMITRIPTYLINE IN TREATMENT DEPRESSION INDUCED BY ALZHEIMER DISEASE

Abstract

Objective:To compare the efficacy and security of sertraline and amitriptyline in the treatment of depression induced by Alzheimer disease(AD).Methods:Sixty patients with depression induced by AD were randomly divided into the treatment groups of sertraline or amitriptyline for 6 weeks. Clinical progress was examined with HAMD,TESSandHDS.Results:No remarkable differences in the efficacy were found between two groups,but the side effects of sertraline were fewer and milder than that of amitriptyline.Conclusion:Sertraline is an effective and safdrug in the treatment of depression associated with Alzheimer disease.
