A comparative study of fluvoxamine combined with olanzapin in treatment of depression with psychotic symptoms

Objective:To explore the curative effect and safety of fluvoxamine combining olanzapin in treatment of depression with psychotic symptoms. Method:156 patients with depressive disorder were randomly divided into single used fluvoxamine group,fluvoxamine combined with low dose olanzapin group and fluvoxamine combined with low dose sulpirid group for 8 weeks. Hamilton depression rating scale( HAMD) ,brief psychiatric rating scale( BPRS) and treatment emergent symptoms scale( TESS) were used to evaluate efficacy and side effects. Results:Compared with pretreatment,scores of the BPRS and HAMD in each week significantly decreased in three groups( P 0. 01) ; The fluvoxamine combined with olanzapin group takes effect faster and showed more effecitive than other groups. There was no obvious difference in the score of the TESS among the three groups( P 0. 05). Conclusion:Fluvoxamine combining low dose olanzapin takes effect faster and has notable curative effect and higher safety in treatment of depression with psychotic symptoms.
