A comparative study of fluvoxamine combined with risperidone in the treatment of depression.

Objective To determine the efficacy and safety of fluvomine combined with risperidone in the treatment of depression.Methods A total of 66 patients with depression were randomly divided into two group,the study group(fluvoxamine combined with risperidone) and the control group(only fluvoxamine) for 6 weeks.The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD) and Treatment Emergent Symptoms Scale(TESS) were used to evaluate efficacy and adverse effects respectively before and at the ends of 1st,2nd,4th,6th week after treatment.Results After 6 weeks treatment,the significant improvement rate in the study group was 66.7%and the response rate was 87.9%.There were no significant differences between the two groups(P0.05).But the clinical efficacy of the study group was faster than that of the control group,fourther more the study group was more prominent in the reducing of anxiety,somatization,cognition and sleep disorders factors of HAMD than control group.Both groups had similiar side effects.Conclusion Combination of fluvoxamine with risperidone is effective in treating depression with mild side effects.
