Abstract
The issue of the Identity of vernacular and written forms of language drew intellectuals' attention in the period of the late Qing dynasty and May Fourth Movement.However,implications differ in the two periods.First,the former wants to promote the sense of country and nation,but the latter focuses on personality.Second,the former still sticks to the old rules but the latter leads to the emergence of modern vernacular.Third,the renovation of literary ideas is the practical achievement.The former promotes a transformation of literary ideas,but the latter sets up the modern thought and culture.
