Abstract
From the theoretical perspective of Linguistic nationalism,language has a close association with the formation of modern nations,and language is considered one of the important construction forces of nation,theimaginary community.In this context,the similarities of the vernacular transformation of modern times between Japan and China are highlighted.However,what needs to be noted is that there are marked and subtle differences between the Movement of Identification of Japanese Vernacular with Written Language and Vernacular Movement in the Late Qing Dynasty,though both were launched under the banner of theIdentification of Vernacular with Written Languageand for the purpose ofpromoting the education advancement.This displays two different dimensions in the development of linguistic nationalism.By analysing and examining these divergences,we could get a clear picture of the multiple meanings ofnationand the multipleroleslanguage plays in the process of the formation of modern nations.
