Treatment for Retinal Detachment with Marfan Syndrome

Purpose To observe the effect of scleral buckling and vitrectomy on retinal detachment(RD)with Marfan syndrome.Methods Of the 15 eyes,5(33.3%)underwent scleral buckling as the first procedure and 10(66.7%) underwent vitrectomy surgery as the first procedure.Clinical characteristics of retinal detachment,reattachment rates,and functional improvement in vision were observed.Results During the median follow up of 4.3 years,complete retinal reattachment was obtained in 100% and 80.0% of patients undergoing scleral buckling and vitrectomy surgery respectively. Total retinal reattachment rate was 86.7%,and visual acuity was 0.1 or better in seven cases.Conclusion The operation (scleral buckling or vitrectomy)may be a Safe and effective method to treat retinal detachment with Maffan's syndrome if the indication was well mastered.
