Abstract
Objective:To study the therapeutic effect of vitrectomy or simple scleral buckling on long-standing retinal detachment. Methods:The clinical data of 96 eyes in 96 patients with long-standing retinal detachment were retrospectivly analyzed. All the patients were with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and combined with proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR)(stage C).In the 96 patients,46 had undergone vitrectomy or and 50 had undergone scleral bucking without vitrectomy. The rate of retinal reattachment in both groups were analysed, and the complications, postoperative vision acuity were compared. The average follow-up period was 9.6 month(3~36month).Results:The rate of retinal reattachment in the vitrectomy group was 93.5%(43/46);visual acuity increased in 38(82.6%),didn't change in 5(10.8%),and decreased in 3(6.5%);complicated cataract in 3(6.5%),and severe PVR in 3(6.5%).The rate of retinal reattachment in the scleral buckling group was 90.0%(45/50);visual acuity increased in 36(72.0%),didn't change in 8(16.0%),and decreased in 6(12.0%);complicated cataract in 9(18.0%),and severe PVR in 8(16.0%).Conclusion:There aren't any difference of the success rate of the surgery and complications between vitrectomy and scleral buckling for long-standing retinal detachment. The better visual acuity is found in the vitrectomy group than those in the scleral buckling group.
